Another stance in support of Focus Media News journalists — including News24, BalkanWeb, Panorama Online, Gazeta Panorama, Panorama Sport, and Radio RASH — comes from foreign embassies in Tirana. Since August 9, the media complex building has been surrounded by the State and Military Police, journalists have been removed from the premises, and the broadcast signal of Albania’s largest news TV, News24, has been cut off.
The German Embassy in Albania shared the statement of the EU Delegation in Tirana, which earlier today expressed that it is closely monitoring the situation concerning Focus Media News and its outlets.
“Disputes among all parties involved must be resolved while fully respecting legality and proper legal procedures. In this context, it is essential that any actions do not hinder journalists’ ability to exercise their freedom in reporting information and to safeguard the confidentiality of their sources. These are fundamental aspects of media freedom and pluralism, which are critical for ensuring the rule of law,” reads the statement from the EU Delegation in Tirana.
